The last Salvation || Thought provoking story || Mother's love for his son

   The last salvation

'The last Salvation' is the tought provoking story. The story points out the harsh reality of life for a woman who is illtreated by her son and the daughter in law inspite of the eternal sacrifice as a mother. The last salvation story start from givan below point.

Motibai's motherly care of her child:

Motibai lived in a small village of Rewari located in the northern part of Haryana. She lived extermely a busy life. Being tired of day's gruelling schedule, she retired to sleep in a corner of her mud palstered house. Her baby of six month lay huddled in her bosom. All of a sudden it started raining. The water started tricking inside the hut from the gapping holes in the roof. The Young child began crying louldy. Motibai woke up from her sleep and found the child drenched in water. She lit up the lamp. She found a small dry patch and shifted the mat there. She changed the baby's clothes, put him on the mat and started patting him gentaly. She lay down beside the baby. Constant pouring of water drenched her body. She kept shivering from cold. The next day she had devloped high fever and cold but it did not matter to her. She was used to working even during illness. Her life knew no holidays or breaks.

Ill tretment of motibai by the narrator's wife:

The narrator's wife did nor allow Motibai to sleep in her room for the fear that she or her son would catch T. B. that she was suffering from. Motibai had to sleep in a make sift hut in the courtyatd.
When motibai coughed and         sneezed the narrator's wife Bharati   cursed her. She considered a waste of life it was to live in a house where one could not get restful sleep after a day's        drudgery. She uttered venomously poignent words that her husband did not care for her comforts though he had promised before the holy God of fire. She often asked her husband why he did not ask his brother to share some burden of their mother's maintenance.  The narrator was a police constable with a meagre salary. Raghu their son was ripe for going to school. With his mother she thonght that her son. Would have to go without proper food. Bharati negged the narrator when he returned from his duty.

 Bharati's instructions to her son:

Bharati prepared dinner as usual. She placed an onion on two rotis and told her son to give it his Dadi. She instructed him not to sit there and listen to any of the stories she might tell him. She also instructed him to tell her to clean the plate with ashes after she had done with the dinner. She did not want her children to suffer from T. B.

Motibai's wish to go to kumbh mela:

The son told his father that his dadi wished to bathe in the confluence of tree holy rivers on the day of kumbh mela. She wanted to atone for her sins before she started her journey to the other world.
Narroter's proposel to Bharati about kumbh mela:
The narroters opened the topic of his mother's whis to visit the kumbh mela during dinner. But Bharati did not say anithing. Perhaps she was alarmed of the expenditure. She found no words to convey her shock. The narrator said that she had also not been to any religious place. So she would get an opportunity to visit the kumbh mela under the excuse of his mother. The mela took place only once in twelve years. Thus the narrator tried to keep her in good humour and put an incentive for getting her consent.

Bharati's consent for kumbh mela:
The next day she agreed to the narrator's proposal about taking his mother to the kumbh. She would leave Raghu with her parents. She thonght it was worth going mother would be able to take a dip in the holy confluence before she departs for the other world.

Their visit to the kumbh mela and desertion of  Motibai:
They decided to go to kumbh mela. Mother seemed to be extremely happy. All the way she kept showering praises on Bharati and the narrator. For having agreed to bring her to Allahabad for the kumbh. They found huge shed erected by some philanthropic organisations to provide sheter to the visitors. They retired to their make shift at night. The narrator slept in a cornor on a mat. Bharati and his mother slept next to him. At night Bharati whispered in his ears that she wanted to discuss something urgently with him. She took him out side under the clear sky. She insisted to go back to Rewari leaving the mother there.  She said that there were many philanthropic organizations who were doing great service to such person.
Hurriedly they reached the bus stand leaving Motibai to the care of God and benign Goddess Ganga.
